Our Oscar 2014 Picks

Because we are obviously genius film critics in our own minds (LOL)...we thought we'd get in on the Oscar picking experience and show off our choices for this year's Academy Award winners. Our decisions are based on nothing...but who knows. This could start a whole new career of blindly choosing Oscar winners for us!!

___________

Best Picture:

  • American Hustle
  • Captain Phillips
  • Dallas Buyers Club
  • Gravity
  • Her
  • Nebraska
  • Philomena
  • 12 Years a Slave
  • The Wolf of Wall Street
We're going with "12 Years". I know "Gravity" had CGI and technical brilliance out the wazoo...but "12 Years" was perfection/tragedy/emotion/everything.

_____________

Best Actor in a Leading Role:

  • Christian Bale
  • Bruce Dern
  • Leonardo DiCaprio
  • Chiwetel Ejiofor
  • Matthew McConaughey
Let's go with Matthew for the win. And not only because he has won everything else in this category, but 1) brilliant performance and 2) everyone loves a comeback. And while this writer LOVED "Failure to Launch"..."Dallas Buyers Club" is definitely a comeback from his "Dazed & Confused" glory days.

_____________

Best Actress in a Leading Role:
  • Amy Adams
  • Cate Blanchett
  • Sanda Bullock
  • Judi Dench
  • Meryl Streep
Cate. Although a Sandra win is very possible. Her performance in "Gravity" was grounding and brilliant.

_____________

Best Actor in a Supporting Role:
  • Barkhad Abdi
  • Bradley Cooper
  • Michael Fassbender
  • Jonah Hill
  • Jared Leto
Although, as an Academy member my vote would go to Jonah. He slayed in "Wolf".

_____________

Best Actress in a Supporting Role:
  • Sally Hawkins
  • Jennifer Lawrence
  • Lupita Nyong'o
  • Julia Roberts
  • June Squibb
It's definitely Lupita's to lose with the amazing introductory performance in "12 Years". Jennifer could take it, but I think odds on second could go to Mrs. Squibb whose stirring performance in "Nebraska" was mesmerizing. And Oscar does love the older generation.

_____________

Best Directing:
  • David O. Russell
  • Alfonso Cuaron
  • Alexander Payne
  • Steve McQueen
  • Martin Scorcese
Really a brilliant film in "Gravity" done with such cinematic/technical expertise.

_____________

And all those other awards:

Best Animated Feature: "Frozen" (!!!)
Best Cinematography: "Gravity" (???)
Best Costume Design: "The Great Gatsby"
Best Documentary: "The Square"...brilliant.
Best Documentary Short: "Prison Terminal" (the only one I saw of the nominees...I'm sure they're all brilliant...#sorry)
Best Film Editing: "Gravity"
Best Foreign Language Film: "Omar"
Best Makeup: "Dallas Buyers Club"
Best Original Score: "Gravity"
Best Original Song: "Let It Go" from "Frozen" (!!!)
Best Production Design: "Gravity"
Best Sound Editing / Sound Mixing / Visual Effects (three separate awards): "Gravity"

Best Adapted Screenplay: "12 Years a Slave"
Best Original Screenplay: "Blue Jasmine"...it's Woody!

_____________

What do y'all think? Who are you rooting for? Or are you just looking forward to the outfits?!
