Styled By Lynn: Cohen's Retreat Cottages Preview #4

Put the finishing touches on our four little cottages that we styled for Cohen's Retreat. Very excited about how they turned out. And tonight, you can go walk through each...The Bohemian Girl's Retreat, The Black & White Cottage, The Artist's Studio and The Coastal Cottage...each has a unique sensibility and story...AND pieces from each are for sale through Cohen's!

Cohen's is also going to rent out these little cottages in the future so that's pretty fun!! Go support local business and enjoy the opening of Cohen's Retreat tonight, 28 February 2014.

Get To Know: Jessica Leavitt

Photo from Garden&Gun highlighting the Nation's Scout Guides.

Jessica Leavitt is about to rock the local business world in Savannah, Georgia with the introduction of Savannah's own Scout Guide in March 2014. Literally filled to the brim with local businesses (we hyper-linked the heck out of the third question down), TSG: Savannah is going to show locals and tourists alike a wide variety of local and small business in the Low Country. Get to Know a little bit about the editor behind the scenes below...

CLUTTER FURNISHINGS AND INTERIORS: For those not in the know, what is the Scout Guide? When is it coming out? Where can people pick it up? Give us all the details!
JESSICA LEAVITT:   The Scout Guide is a photo-centric, boutique catalog and guide book of local culture. It is a national brand and the guides exist in about 30 cities currently with many more to be released by the end of this year. The idea behind The Scout Guide is that a local editor, in this case me, gets to take locals and visitors on a curated tour of Savannah to show the faces behind the businesses that make this city unique.  If you want a preview, feel free to check out our national page: thescoutguide.com, find a city of interest and virtually flip through one of the volumes! The Savannah guide will be launching in early March and I am quite excited! People can find it at any of the membership businesses as well as at various events around town. I will be updating my Facebook page [facebook.com/TheScoutGuideSavannah] with events I will be at so like my page and you will be kept in the know!

CF&I: Who is on the Scout Guide Savannah Team? We know a lot goes into making your brilliant publication.
JL: Well, surprisingly enough I am the Savannah team! I hired Leeann Ritch [leeannritchphotography.com] to work with me as my photographer and we have a ton of fun working together!  I also get quite a bit of support from our headquarters in Charlottesville, VA. In Charlottesville the design team works with my art direction to create the spreads and then they also oversee the printing process making sure the colors and quality remains constant and in line with the very high Scout guide standards!

CF&I: Can you tell us what local businesses will be featured?
JL:  ABSOLUTELY! I am so excited about all the businesses that I am featuring this year.  As of today, look for features on the following businesses: Alison Seeger Slipcovers, Bean Counters Bookkeeping, Byrd Cookie Co., Casey Schivera of Celia Dunn, clutter, Cohen’s Retreat [includes Hens &Chicks, Curry & Co, S. Tallevast Interiors, Savannah Plush, Revolver Studios, Fish Out of Water Designs, Liz Demos, Victory Gardens, and Form II Table and Art Tank], Design House, DXM, Erin Rene Photography, Emily McCarthy, Goose Feathers Cafe, Heath Ritch [artist], image by dxm, j. lauren conceirge, Law Office of Julia Sullivan, Leeann Ritch Photography, lily bay studio + bazaar, Maison de Macarons, nourish, Oglethrope Orchids, Posh Petals and Pearls, reThink, Rob’s at Drayton Tower, satchel, Savannah Power Yoga, Slea Slemmer [artist], and Tybee Island Social Club

CF&I: Do you have a favorite shoot so far? Is on-site day a fun part of what you do?
JL: OH BOY! I couldn’t pick one favorite, they are all great! I just love being able to use visual language to tell a story. The on-site part is amazing, one of my favorite things to do! Also, I have learned a lot through the process, having an open mind and being able to roll with the punches makes the shots just happen. Often over-planning makes you stiff and too set in your ways when the perfect shot might just be there waiting for you. Being able to be flexible I think makes each shoot fun. I always try to keep the mood light and create an atmosphere of fun. I’ve been known to have quite a laugh, most who know me can agree!

CF&I: How did you get into editing?
JL: So my job as editor is also one of curator and I think that really best suits me.  I come from a line of entrepreneurs and grew up talking about small business and customer service, important skills to have when starting a business of your own.  I have always been one to research new things, march to my own beat, and find beauty all around me.  I have taken a few turns in my career path, starting by working in the fashion industry, then moving back to Savannah where I began to manage nourish for four years. At nourish I came to enjoy working with the other local businesses to create cross-promotional events. I also came up with idea of Broughton Street bingo to offer incentives for people who shopped locally during the holidays.  I wanted to find a way to further promote local small businesses and work more in marketing them together. That’s when I first saw The Scout Guide. I just was so attracted to the feel of it, the look of it, the smell of it.  I couldn’t stop thinking about how great it would be for Savannah to have a guide. After many pro and cons lists, I dove right in and haven’t looked back yet! I love hearing what makes people tick, have a bit of styling experience, a healthy dose of creativity and a fairly positive, personable demeanor, all important when thinking about the facets of creating The Scout Guide.

CF&I: Describe Scout Guide Savannah in five words.
JL: Loves local, beautifully, hand-picked & personal.

Exciting that this beautiful, historic home is for sale in Savannah. 113 East Oglethorpe is listed on Trulia ($778,000) and offers 3,000 square feet of charm. Great outdoor space on all of those balconies and really great bones.

What do y'all think? Do y'all love perusing homes on Trulia/Realtor/Zillow as much as we do? #Obsessed

Art You Should Consider Buying Today (Or At Least In The Near Future): "All Dressed", Cedric Smith

http://yourewelcome.bigcartel.com/product/all-dressed
"All Dressed" by Cedric Smith.
I am always so profoundly taken by Cedric Smith's work. Such an emotive, vibrant, touching quality that evokes both nostalgia and a modern, almost pop-art vibe.

"All Dressed" is available on You're Welcome Savannah's online boutique and it is such a great piece. Definitely a showcase piece of art for a living room or foyer...something you want guests to see and appreciate.

Don't worry if you get sticker-shock when first buying art. It's an investment...and an important one. If you are drawn to a piece of art, then it's never a bad decision to purchase. Not only does it make your home look nice, but it also appreciates to an extent.

This Just In (037)

This Just In: Lingerie Chest.

Perfect Fit: So this chest has been in for a little bit...not technically "This Just In" but still worthy of a shout-out on here...and it was recently reduced in price (yeah, sale!!!). Great look that is perfect for a tight bedroom. Love the handles on this guy and you have tons of room for unmentionables...which should make your hubby/better half smile! Come check it out today at Clutter!

How Much: $395. Only at Clutter!! Come see us or call (912.354.7556) for details.

365 Days of Fab Furniture: Day Fifty-Seven

Great retro-inspired piece from Redford House (available on Layla Grace, $2519). Love the clean, midcentury lines mixed with the cool tone of the blue...it looks like a daggum dollhouse piece of furniture and would be perfect in a little girl's room. Holy cow.

What do y'all think? Are you into painted furniture?

This Just In (036)

This Just In: Leopard Rug (8'x10').

Perfect Fit: Add a little funk to a traditional space with this pristine leopard rug. I see dark wood, antique furniture, a striking framed large-scale photo, light painted walls...and THEN...this bad boy on the floor. Wowza. What a look. Part Emily McCarthy/Elle Decor, part Jerseylicious. All awesome.

How Much: $175. Only at Clutter!! Come see us or call (912.354.7556) for details.

This Just In (035)

This Just In: Arm Chair.

Perfect Fit: I like this handsome, little fellow. Although, I might love him in a white vinyl...or maybe a neon pink/yellow/green vinyl for a little funk.  Alison Seeger could do a funky cool job on this guy, I'm sure! What do y'all think? What would you recover this bad boy in? Or would you keep him as is??!

How Much: $215. Only at Clutter!! Come see us or call (912.354.7556) for details.

Thoughts on a Tuesday in February

Sometimes, despite my best efforts, I think. I know. This is a dangerous venture, but sometimes...thought happens.

I tend to think more when plopped on my lovely, and often child-stained, Pottery Barn sofa in my Hawaiian living room...ZGallerie horseheads looming over...probably also thinking...and also using several ellipses.

I think that I'd like for this blog do be a source for folks to come to find great design inspiration, find pieces that they might have been looking for, celebrate (drool over) pieces that we track down from around the web, and to get an inside look into what makes Clutter what it is...and who we are.

I think (know) that we are truly blessed to have such an avid and loyal customer base...blessed to be from the beautiful city of Savannah, Georgia...and blessed to share things we love with y'all.

And I think, as we approach our one-year-blog-aversary (on March 11th, 2014), that we are excited to continue to grow as a small, local business and as local business women with and for y'all!

Thanks for sharing this last year with us and looking forward to several more in the future!

xoxo,
Brooke

365 Days of Fab Furniture: Day Fifty-Six

https://www.onekingslane.com/product/32114/2099659

Benchmade by Brownstone is a featured shop on One King's Lane this week and we're loving their Garrett Sideboard (Natural, $3699). Made from reclaimed wood, this is the perfect piece for an on-trend, white-washed space. Light, wide-plank floors and white walls with crown molding would really look sweet with this little baby and a large, colorful piece of art above.

Storage February continues. What has been your favorite piece so far this month? Are you on the storage train or ready to get off? March we're breaking down the best beds out there to help you with your home designing inspiration and purchases!

This Just In (034)

This Just In: North Carolina Cherry Chest (circa 1825).

Perfect Fit: What a piece! And on rollers! If you don't have any antique pieces in your home, this cherry chest (in phenomenal condition) is a great jumping off point. Good shape...check. Not terribly expensive...check. Great looking...triple check. I really like him for a child's room to amp up the sophistication, but he could easily be a silver chest in a dining room or your personal dresser in a master. What do y'all think?

How Much: $975. Only at Clutter!! Come see us or call (912.354.7556) for details.

Adieu, Expedit

http://yourewelcomesavannah.com/open-house-011/
Photo of Lynn's Home by the amazing, Mr. Cedric Smith of You're Welcome Savannah.
Ikea announced the end of the Expedit Bookcase in what The Guardian is calling "the most punk gesture of 2014". Undeniably popular in Europe, Save Expedit already has a Facebook page (although I have no idea what it says...), the hashtag "SaveExpedit" is trending on Twitter, and our very own Expedit shelves (pictured above) are trembling in their modern booties for fear of extinction...or worse...a recall! #Gasp

The Expedit shelving unit is modern, yet timeless. Functional. Sophisticated. Simple. And it has spawned Ikea hacks from every corner of the internet (see HERE and HERE for starters).

We now even use them in store at Clutter for storage and pillow displays. They're so great. Really. #Guffaw

If you don't have any Expedit wares in your home, or you have several and you need several more, you still have time. Run to your local (Atlanta or otherwise) Ikea and pick up this modern marvel of function and design. You won't regret it. Promise.

We will miss you, Expedit! #Adieu

Obsessions of the Week: 23FEB to 01MAR14

Some things we're obsessed with this week:

365 Days of Fab Furniture: Day Fifty-Five

http://www.zgallerie.com/p-12853-omni-mirrored-buffet.aspx

I do enjoy a good mirrored piece, and ZGallerie's Omni Mirrored Buffet ($1599) is sophisticated Hollywood regency done right. A little glamour (well...a lot of glamour) toned down by straight, simple lines makes this piece both a stand-out and transitional from room to room / theme to theme. Bar/TV Stand/Dresser...whatever. This is a great piece of storage.

Gone But Not Forgotten...ELEVEN

Some really special pieces came in and quickly flew out of the store recently...here are some of our favorites that are gone, but not forgotten:

Styled By Lynn: Cohen's Retreat Cottages Preview #3

Two more progress shots from the styling job we're doing over at Cohen's Retreat for their grand opening (28 February!!). Excited to see these little cottages coming together. More to come!

Original art in the Bohemian Cottage (Top) is by our very own Jimmy Rahn; pillow by THE Lovelane Designs; and beds from the incredible Rest Stop team!

365 Days Of Fab Furniture: Day Fifty-Four

Layla Grace offers a lot of high-end and one of a kind furniture including the beautiful Battier Chest by Zentique ($3563). Love the play on a barrister cabinet, the functionality and beauty of the traditional lines. Throw a TV on top of it, or use it behind a desk for office storage. Whatever you choose...this piece is going to rock your home.

Only a few more days in February as we track down the best storage pieces in the game. Stick with us!

365 Days Of Fab Furniture: Day Fifty-Three

This gorgeous, vintage cupboard is perfection. Attention country cottage owners...you NEED this piece. Nuff said.

Available at Clutter. $550.

This Just In (033)

This Just In: Tray and Stand.

Perfect Fit: Fully on board with the bar cart revolution that is sweeping the design nation thanks to some great vintage minded designers (Jonathan Adler, Berkus, the set designer for Mad Men). But sometimes you gotta set your own trends. This little tray and stand is on theme with a bar cart...fits in a small corner/nook, super vintage, and can store your best bourbon/gin/vodka/drink of choice (or all of the above). But it's also not a bar cart which makes it unique and special to your home. Like all things design, stick with what you love, be unique, keep a partial eye on what's "cool", but you'll be good if you stray from the pack. We always try to!

How Much: $145. Only at Clutter!! Come see us or call (912.354.7556) for details.
